Who are you healthy for? Two moms tell their stories

Most everyone has at least one other person to be healthy for, be it family members, coworkers or neighbors. So, who do you stay healthy for, and how does a health plan help you do it? Here’s what two Premera members, both young moms, said when we asked:

  • For Stacie of Bothell, striving to be healthy is a blessing and an obligation. She says she rarely has been ill, but she also understands the importance of preventive care. She recently participated in the Premera Checkup Challenge by signing a pledge to get her annual checkup, because she and her husband agree staying on top of their health is simply part of being a parent.

“He didn’t used to go to the doctor very often, so he’d be an ER visitor when he had a problem,” Stacie says. “But now, when I schedule my checkup I bug him until he does too. And for the kids, when they go back to school, they’ll be exposed to a lot more illnesses, so I always make sure vaccines are up-to-date and they get an annual flu shot.”

  • For Andrea of Stanwood, Premera coverage made a real difference in how she made it through a complicated first pregnancy that included allergic reactions to prescription medications and a C-section after a long labor.

Andrea says having a Premera plan gave her assurance she’d be able to get quality medical care for the birth and aftercare, so she and her husband could focus on the joys of being a new parent. She contrasts this experience with that of several friends who were not covered and paid up front in cash to a birthing center. Andrea says if she hadn’t had a health plan, the complications she experienced might have been a medical and financial disaster.

Stacie and Andrea strive to be healthy for their families and find comfort in the protection they have with their Premera health plans. Who are you healthy for? How does your Premera plan help you stay healthy for those you care about most? We’d love to hear your story!
