In the July 2022 payment policy updates, we noted a title revision for the physical, occupational, and speech therapy services payment policy to include speech therapy. The policy code 97127 was also removed because it was terminated effective December 31, 2019.
A new section was added in the payment policy to include for speech therapy services. Effective for claims processed on and after August 15, 2022, a plan of care modifier (GN/GO/GP) must be appended to applicable therapy services. Speech therapy procedure codes and descriptions were also added to the codes/coding guidelines section.
