Per Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidance, Premera began allowing POS11 for telehealth visits to allow reimbursement consistent with an in-office visit during the public health emergency. CMS guidance ends on September 1, 2021, and Premera
will no longer pay telehealth visits at the higher POS11 code in Alaska.
For providers delivering services via telehealth, Premera will require continued use of the correct telehealth place of service (POS) 02 with the procedure code appended with either modifier 95 or GT. Claims with modifiers indicating they were telehealth,
if billed with POS 11, will be rejected up front and will require the correct POS to match the service billed. We’ll no longer accept POS 11 for telehealth services.
