Improving Quality of Life for Chronic Pain Sufferers

  • June 6, 2019

Premera is improving the way we support our members with chronic conditions and encouraging positive health behaviors by partnering with MOBE.

    What is MOBE?

MOBE is a service that provides personalized education that complements care from healthcare providers. It’s specifically for people with health challenges such as persistent pain, poor sleep, fatigue, feelings of depression, and overall discomfort. While there’s no immediate cure for chronic pain, implementing lifestyle changes through better self-management has been proven to help reduce pain and improve quality of life.

What kind of support does MOBE provide?

MOBE provides eligible Premera members with education about how the body and brain work together to affect how people feel. Members in the program are paired with a dedicated MOBE Guide. This is a person who listens, teaches, and shares ideas for feeling better. Most members who participate will start with weekly 30-minute telephone sessions. After six to eight weeks, many people go to two conversations each month. A MOBE Guide is available to work with the member at their own pace, for as long as they need. MOBE helps us meet our members where they are by engaging with them over the phone, online, or through the MOBE app.

    How are eligible members contacted?

Members are identified as eligible for the MOBE program through indicators in their health history. Once members are identified as eligible for the MOBE program, they receive an initial welcome letter explaining details about the program and its purpose to support their health and improve their overall quality of life. They also receive a package in the mail containing additional information about the MOBE program. Members have the choice to not participate or even opt out of the program at any time.
