Knowing Where to Go: ER Alternatives

  • January 16, 2020

In December, Premera sent a mailing to 1,300 Federal Employee Program (FEP) members in Alaska and eastern Washington who visited the emergency room (ER) 2 or more times in 2019. Experts estimate that the cost of an ER visit for a non-urgent condition is two to five times greater than the cost of receiving care in a primary care setting for the same condition.

The mailing provides information about ER alternatives, such as Premera’s 24-Hour NurseLine, telehealth services, and urgent care centers.
