On September 3, 2020, the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) announced a voluntary recall by RLC Labs, Inc. for all batches of Nature-Throid® and WP Thyroid®.
These products are being recalled due to sub-potency with amounts of liothyronine (T3) or levothyroxine (T4) lower than specified. This could result in members not receiving the full dosage of their medications.
Affected members should contact their pharmacist and/or provider for other treatment options. Pharmacists may dispense an alternative underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) medication, not affected by the recall. Preferred alternatives (some at the same out-of-pocket cost) are available. Whether affected members will be charged for the replacement medication depends on the policies of the pharmacy they use.
