In collaboration with
physician medical directors, Premera
clinical pharmacists will be reviewing medical necessity for drugs requested
through the medical benefit starting January 1, 2022. Medical director calls
will continue to be done by physician medical directors.
Medical benefit drugs are injected or infused by a healthcare
professional in an out-patient clinic or infusion centers. Pharmacy benefit
drugs are self-administered medications that are managed at home.
