Payment Policy Updates April 2019

The following policies received their annual review without any changes to the policy content:

• Acupuncture
• After Hours Care
• Robotic Surgical System and Computer Assisted Navigation Codes
• Screening Services with Evaluation and Management (E&M) Services
• Site Specifying Modifiers

The following policies were revised as noted:

• Modifier 80, 81, 82 – Assistant Surgeons (Physician)
  Added the second paragraph and sub-bullets to identify the source used to determine which procedure codes do/do not allow for surgical assistants.
• Modifier AS – Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist Services for Assistant at Surgery (Non-Physician)
  Added the second paragraph and sub-bullets to identify the source used to determine which procedure codes do/do not allow for surgical assistants.
