Value-Based Care & New Premera Partnerships

  • December 6, 2018

Our customers often feel they pay too much for services and don’t get the care they need. For this reason, Premera is partnering with providers to help deliver high-quality, cost efficient care for our customers. These new relationships and payment models are built on trust, shared data and analytics, and the common goal of slowing the increase in the cost of care.

“Value-based care allows a provider to get off the treadmill of fee-for-service visits and lets us provide the care we were trained to and want to do for our patients,” explains Dr. David Buchholz, Medical Director at Premera. Value-based care is continuously evolving, and we’re glad to be partnering with our local providers to lead this change.

At Premera, we’re always looking for new and innovative ways to partner with providers around value-based care. For example:

    • Accountable Care Networks (ACNs) are partnerships with key provider groups in Washington which are offered on the individual market. These ACO-like arrangements are accountable for improving the quality of care and the cost while ensuring a positive patient experience.
    • Urgent Care value-based arrangements establish a single rate for care and has built into the arrangement a money back guarantee to ensure a satisfactory customer and patient experience. In this case, if a member isn’t satisfied with the care they receive at one of these sites, they’ll be reimbursed for the cost.
    • Value-based arrangements around high cost specialty care areas like Oncology and Rheumatology. These models aim to improve the delivery of care, the quality of care, and reduce increases in the total cost of care.

The variety of these models is exciting, inspiring, and points to the fact that by working together we can improve customers’ lives. If you’re interested in partnering with us or learning more, contact your provider network executive.
