The Washington State Legislature passed Senate Bill 6219 mandating that all fully-insured health plans in Washington State cover all FDA-approved contraceptive drugs, devices, products and services, and voluntary sterilization, with no cost-sharing (deductibles, co-payments, or coinsurance) starting in 2019.
Health plans that provide maternity care coverage must also provide coverage for abortion services, including elective services, under the new state mandate.
At Premera, we’re working to ensure our members receive the right reproductive health coverage under the new state mandate. We’ll post another update with details on how we’re putting our coverage into practice in December.
