Two Medicare-Related Surveys Being Conducted

  • December 1, 2022

Currently, there are two Medicare surveys – one from the Administration for Community Living (ACL) and the other from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). These are not phone scams.

    • SHIP/SMP Customer Satisfaction Survey - CG Strategy (ACL's contractor) is currently conducting a beneficiary survey of people who received 1:1 help from a local State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) provider (in our state known as SHIBA). The SHIP survey is an annual national survey. Each year they collect responses from a sample of all 54 states and territories. This reduces the burden on individual states and territories and will provide the entire program with a yearly analysis of results.
    • Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) - CMS is contacting beneficiaries directly by phone to conduct the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS). MCBS is a continuous, multipurpose survey of a nationally representative sample of the Medicare population, conducted by the CMS Office of Enterprise Data and Analytics (OEDA) through a contract with NORC at the University of Chicago.

To learn more, visit the CMS MCBS webpage. If you’ve been contacted to participate in the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) and would like to verify your selection in this study, you can call NORC toll free at 1-844-777-2151.
