Premera Announces Winner of Total Joint Replacement RFP

  • May 16, 2019

We’re pleased to announce Providence St. Joseph Health is the awardee for the Total Joint Replacement (TJR) bundle. As the awardee, the six Providence St. Joseph Health facilities will be our Center of Excellence for this service beginning in January 1, 2020 for groups that elect this service.

Our process to choose an awardee began in October when Premera invited providers to participate in our Total Joint Replacement Bundle as our Center of Excellence in Washington through a Request for Proposal (RFP). This RFP is the first offered by an insurer in Washington state. We received many RFPs responses and each response was reviewed based on the RFP requirements.

The bundle is built on both clinical quality and cost parameters. The TJR bundle was awarded based on the combined score of the responding providers’ ability to meet the Bree Collaborative guidelines for TJR and the bundle cost submitted. A higher weight in the final scoring was given to meeting the Bree Collaborative guidelines. The successful awardee, Providence St. Joseph Health, scored the highest for the combined cost and non-cost Bree parameters.

The two procedures included in the bundled payment designation are total knee replacement and total hip replacement. The bundle covers a set of pre- and post-surgery procedures in addition to the TJR. The bundle includes high-touch care coordination and travel benefits, including hotel and airfare administered by Premera. Premera is administering this same set of bundled services for the Health Care Authority so our teams are well prepared to serve Premera members participating in this bundled offering.
