Advanced Imaging Reconsideration

  • June 1, 2017

Beginning in late June, you'll have 10 calendar days to request reconsideration of an initial denial for all advanced imaging services.

    What's a reconsideration request?

When an imaging service doesn't receive prior authorization from an insurer, a provider may choose to request a second level of review-known as reconsideration.

When performed in a non-emergency outpatient setting, advanced imaging services require prior authorization through Premera's partner, AIM Specialty Health (AIM).

Both prior authorization and reconsiderations are made in advance of providing the imaging service to a patient. Learn more about services and codes that require review from AIM.

    What you need to know

    Request prior authorization online

The best way to submit your prior authorization request for advanced imaging is online, through AIM's provider website. AIM completes approximately 94 percent of prior authorization requests within 24 hours. If you receive a denial from AIM, you may request reconsideration within 10 calendar days.

Reconsideration requires a phone call between physicians

To request reconsideration from AIM, the ordering physician from your organization needs to call AIM at 866-666-0766 and ask to speak with an AIM physician.

For more information, visit AIM's provider website.
