New Member ID Cards Issued Upon Renewal

  • Due to No Surprises Act legislation, health plans offering group health coverage are required to update and re-release physical and digital ID cards to members as groups renew beginning January 1, 2022. This means that the members of your group plan will be receiving a new ID card.

    What’s changing?

The law requires that all ID cards include:

    • In-network and out-of-network deductibles
    • Any out-of-pocket maximum for the plan coverage
    • A telephone number and website address through which an enrollee may seek assistance (please note this information is currently included on ID cards)

In addition, as space allows, we will also include:

    • Family deductible and out-of-pocket maximums in alignment with the BCBSA
    • Deductible and out-of-pocket amounts for tiered plans.

    Digital ID cards are available

In the event members need their ID card before they receive their physical copy in the mail, here are options to access a digital or printable ID card:

    • Mobile app - Members who use the Premera mobile app have their ID card at their fingertips allowing them to easily show their providers their health plan information. The mobile app is a digital ID card only and does not allow the user the option of printing or sending the card.
    • Premera.com - Members who have activated their premera.com account can access a digital ID card or print a temporary card. Accessing their card is easy by following these steps:
      • Log in to premera.com
      • From the main landing page, scroll down to the Member ID section
      • Click the box that says "See ID Card"
      • The digital ID card will populate – both front and back options are given
      • Select the option that is right for them:  Print Temporary ID Card or Mail this ID Card. Selecting the Mail this ID Card option will prompt a new ID Card be mailed to the address on file for the member

Members who have not yet activated their account on premera.com or used the mobile app can do so any time! If they don’t know their member ID number, they will have the option to verify their identity using their Social Security number instead.
