Save on Copays with the Tablet Splitting Program
By participating in our voluntary tablet-splitting program, you can save as much as 50 percent of your pharmacy copay on selected drugs.
Here's an Example:
Let’s say you’re taking 10 mg of Lipitor daily, paying $25 for a 30-day supply. If you get a new Lipitor 20mg prescription with the quantity of 15 and split the tablets in half, your supply will last 30 days. Your co-payment will be just $12.50 for 30 days worth of medication instead of $25.
How You Can Participate
- If you’re taking a medication that qualifies for the program, you’ll receive a letter from us that explains how you can participate.
- Your doctor writes you a new, higher-strength, half quantity prescription so that you can split a single pill and take one half pill at a time.
- For retail prescriptions, ask your pharmacist to call your doctor to see if pill splitting is right for you or call your doctor directly for a new prescription.
- For mail-order prescriptions via Express Scripts Home Delivery, request a new prescription from your doctor and submit it to Express Scripts Home Delivery before your next refill.
- You use a tablet-splitting device (available at almost any pharmacy) to split your pills and take only one half at a time.
