Now is a great time to remind your clients about the importance of having a primary care provider.

Amidst the Coronavirus pandemic, staying healthy is more important than ever. Yet many Premera members—and people all across America—have delayed or deferred routine medical care. That’s why it’s a great time to remind your clients about preventive care and designating a primary care provider (PCP).

Your clients will get the highest value of care when they designate a primary care provider (PCP). The PCP will get to know their health history, complete important screenings, identify and treat common medical conditions, and help them avoid health problems before they start. Plus, copays will be lower than non-PCP or specialist office visits, meaning they get better care at a lower price.

Here are a few things to know to help answer PCP questions from your clients:

    • Members can choose a PCP from many types of healthcare providers—family or general practice doctor, internist, pediatrician, obstetrician/gynecologist (OB-GYN), physician assistant or nurse practitioner.
    • Each member of your client’s family covered by Premera has the flexibility to choose a different PCP.
    • Should their health needs change, members can switch their PCP at any time. Remind them to notify Premera to ensure they get a lower copay.
    • To designate a PCP, members need to sign in to their online account. Once signed in, they’ll see My Account > ID Cards & PCP in the top menu options.
