Premera is adding preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a daily medicine to prevent HIV, to our preventive care benefits. This eliminates cost-sharing for members, making PrEP more affordable for your clients at a higher risk of HIV acquisition.
Premera will roll-out the benefit to preferred choice groups, dual choice groups, and small groups beginning on July 1, 2020. All other non-grandfathered groups and individual plans will receive the benefit upon renewal. Customization options to opt in early are available for national accounts and self-funded groups.

The addition of PrEP to our preventive care is in response to a new federal recommendation from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). These updates happen annually and inform the preventive services we cover.
