Two Surveys Currently Underway for Medicare Beneficiaries And Customers

  • December 8, 2022

Medicare beneficiaries may receive a phone call requesting they complete a survey. These phone calls are not scams.

    The two surveys being conducted:

    • State Health Insurance Program (SHIP)/Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Customer Satisfaction Survey - This survey is focused on people who received one-on-one help from the local SHIP. This is an annual national survey and responses are collected from all U.S. states and territories.
    • Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) - This survey is conducted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) and its Office of Enterprise Data and Analytics (OEDA) through a contract with the nonpartisan and objective research organization NORC at the University of Chicago.

Due to the pandemic the MCBS transitioned from in-person to phone surveys. As they return to more normal operations, they may conduct the interview by phone or in person.

Learn more about the MCBS on the CMS MCBS webpage.

If beneficiaries would like to verify an interview who contacted them, they can:
