2020 Premium Rebates Going Out Soon

The Affordable Care Act requires health insurers to rebate part of the premiums they receive if they do not spend at least 80 percent on healthcare services such as doctor and hospital claims. This percentage is known as the medical loss ratio (MLR). In 2020, Premera spent less than 80 percent of premium collected on healthcare services, so we will be rebating part of that premium.

    What you should know

    • Some of your Premera clients may receive an MLR rebate check for a percentage of the premium they paid in 2020.
    • Even if a member no longer has Premera coverage, they’ll receive a rebate check if they’re eligible.
    • Information about the rebate process will be enclosed with the check.
    • Rebate checks will be mailed in late September or early October.
