Six Tips For Helping Your Clients Manage Their Healthcare Costs

  • September 8, 2022

Want to help your clients manage their total healthcare costs? We have six simple tips for members to eliminate unnecessary out-of-pocket costs and ensure the most value from their plan.

    1. Take advantage of tax credits

Tax credits, also known as subsidies, lower the amount you pay for your monthly premium. You must enroll through the state Exchange, Washington Healthplanfinder, to use tax credits. If you enrolled though the Exchange, sign in to your Healthplanfinder account to see your tax credits or to find out if you need to take any action to be considered for tax credits.

    2. See a provider in your plan’s network

With very few exceptions, you must see an in-network provider to have coverage. Otherwise, you may be responsible for the entire cost of the service. To find a network doctor, sign in to your Premera account and go to Find Care > Find a Doctor.

    3. Understand your plan’s benefits

Know where to go to see what’s covered, what’s not covered, and how deductible, coinsurance, and copays apply to each service. To view your plan documents, visit premera.com/visitor/summary-benefits-coverage/individual and locate the benefit booklet for your plan. (Your plan name is on your ID card.) If you have any questions, please call the customer service number on the back of your ID card.

    4. Compare costs and know in advance what you’ll pay for a service

You can get a free cost estimate for a healthcare service by using the Find Care > Find a Doctor tool in your online Premera account. (This is only an estimate; actual costs will be determined when the claim is processed.)

    5. Plan ahead to get the right level of care

Choose an in-network primary care provider and urgent care clinic in your area, so you know where to go when you need care. Getting the right level of care for non-emergent services keeps costs down for everyone.

    6. Choose the right plan

Premium and out-of-pocket costs for services vary by plan. During open enrollment, be sure to choose a Premera plan that provides the right level of care for your healthcare needs and budget.
