Proposed Bill Would Impose Fines on Payors and Providers for Exceeding Growth Benchmark

    Since its original inception in 2020, the Health Care Cost Transparency Board, continues to find ways to provide relief to Washingtonians when it comes to healthcare costs. Their most recent effort, House Bill 1508, would allow the board to fine healthcare providers and insurance carriers who “consistently exceed the growth benchmark.”

    Gary Strannigan, vice president of congressional and legislative affairs at Premera, said it’s too early for such a bill. HB1508 did not pass in this legislative session and the debate will continue over the summer and into the 2024 session.
