Premera to Infuse More Than $250,000 Into Employees’ Local Restaurants

Mountlake Terrace, Wash. — (March 31, 2020) — Premera Blue Cross, the leading health plan in the Pacific Northwest, is providing $75 to each of its more than 3,300 employees to spend through meal delivery services as a show of support to local restaurants hard hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Small businesses including local restaurants make up a large portion of our business, and we want to support our customers. This is a small way we think we can help,” said Jeff Roe, President and CEO, Premera Blue Cross. “Our hope is to continue looking for opportunities to support our employees and communities as we embrace a temporary new sense of normalcy.”

Premera is hoping every employee will fully utilize the $75 gift card, infusing more than $250,000 into local businesses, primarily in Washington and Alaska, where most Premera employees reside. The company also is encouraging its employees to share on social media where they spend their gift cards, further promoting the local restaurants in their neighborhoods.

The National Restaurant Association estimates that the United States’ restaurant industry has experienced a 50% percent decline in sales, $25 billion in lost revenues and more than three million in lost jobs during the first three weeks of March.
