Outpatient Cost-Sharing

  • July 20, 2017

Patients are sometimes confused about whether outpatient providers can collect fees at the time of service. Contractually, providers may collect copays, deductibles, and coinsurance at the time of service. See your contract for further information about seeking payment from our customers. To avoid confusion about costs, many providers communicate cost-sharing information to patients when scheduling procedures.

If a patient has a question about cost-sharing, encourage them to log in to Premera.com and select Understanding My Health Plan. They'll see a summary of benefits here and information on their financial responsibilities.

Alternatively, members can contact Premera customer service at the number listed on their ID card.

    Tools that can help

Use Premera's provider web tools to determine deductible, out-of-pocket maximum, and cost shares for your patients. Visit the Premera secure site to access eligibility and benefits tools for medical and dental providers. New to the tools? Read the medical eligibility and benefits or dental eligibility and benefits user guides.

If you're training new staff, our provider orientation web-based training (WA) explains the basics about confirming patient eligibility, reading ID cards, and more. The training, web tool user guides, and other learning tools are located in our learning center.
