Are You Prescribing Overpriced Acne Medications?

  • May 17, 2018

Premera is removing grandfathering from Absorica® (isotretinoin) and 11 antibiotic medications starting June 1, 2018. We’ll require customers who’re currently taking these acne medications to try generic alternatives. To continue prescribing Absorica (or other antibiotic medications included in this edit) after your patient has tried a generic alternative, you’ll need to submit a prior authorization to us.

Paying for high-cost prescription medications is a concern for our customers and can affect their medication adherence. Premera regularly reviews the cost of prescription medications to determine if there are similar, but less expensive, medications on the market. To assist you in helping your patients make informed healthcare decisions, we thought you’d be interested in this information.

This policy will be published to our website this month.
