The flu can cause death or serious complications, especially for people 65 years and older. According to a study by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), between 70 and 90 percent of seasonal flu-related deaths have occurred in people 65 years and older and between 50 and 70 percent of seasonal flu-related hospitalizations have occurred in that age group.
Beginning late September, Medicare Advantage members will receive a postcard reminding them to get their flu shot. It will emphasize the importance that the vaccine can have on their health.
The postcard advises them to speak with their primary care doctor or pharmacist about getting the flu shot.
