• Changes for Employer Offered Plans

I Get Coverage Through My Employer

In 2014, companies with more than 50 employees will have to provide employee health benefits or face penalties. If you have health coverage through your employer there are things you should and shouldn't have to do.

    You should

    • Have an option to purchase coverage for dependent children (up to age 26) through your employer, and
    • Be eligible for a tax credit to purchase coverage through the marketplace, if your employer does not follow the federal healthcare reform rules about coverage (and must pay a penalty.)

    You shouldn't

    • Be eligible for a federal tax credit, if your employer provides coverage that meets federal healthcare reform rules.
    • Have to pay more than 9.5 percent of your salary for your premium. This is based on federal healthcare reform standards and does not include cost to cover other family members.
