ANCHORAGE, AK – (January 20, 2014) — Alaskans resolving for a healthier lifestyle in 2014 have a new reason to commit to their personal promise. From January 20 to February 16, 2014 Alaskans are invited to join Alaska Moves – a four-week fitness challenge powered by EveryMove that turns active living choices into donations for statewide charities. The sponsors, Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska and Vivacity, have made it possible for Alaskans to get moving for a good cause in an effort to raise a total of $25,000 for the following regional non-profits: American Heart Association of Anchorage, The Children’s Place, Boys and Girls Clubs of Alaska, American Diabetes Association of Alaska and Alaska Dance Theater.
“Our main priorities are the health of our members and supporting healthy initiatives in our communities,” said Jeff Davis, president of Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska. “We pursue every opportunity to encourage healthy choices. Alaska Moves is something we truly believe can make a difference, not just in our members’ personal lives, but in the organizations committed to building a healthier Alaska.”
To get started with Alaska Moves, participants can enroll online at https://everymove.org. Enrollment will be open throughout the contest, but participants are encouraged to sign up early to help ensure the maximum charitable donation. During the four week challenge, participants will track their “Active Days” through the web site or any number of fitness tracking devices connected to EveryMove, which will contribute to the charity challenge as well as their individual rewards. For every “active day” participants log, Premera and Vivacity will donate money to one of the five selected charities.
Alaska Moves rewards participants with individual rewards but takes it a step further by benefitting others. “Sometimes we need a little nudge to get us moving, and even the smallest incentive can do the trick,” said Russell Benaroya, CEO of EveryMove. “In addition to the individual rewards, Alaska Moves offers the added bonus of raising money for some of the state’s hallmark non-profits. We’re so thankful to our campaign sponsors, Premera and Vivacity, as each company actively demonstrates a commitment to good health and well-being. This generous support is yet another example of that commitment.”
