Major Price Reduction for Cholesterol Drug

  • January 3, 2019

Drug manufacturer Amgen announced a 60% reduction in the list price for its injectable cholesterol drug, Repatha on October 24, 2018. The lower-priced Repatha product will carry a new national drug code (NDC). Currently, the NDC for the lower-priced Repatha product isn’t available at pharmacies. The manufacturer stated that it’ll be available shortly but hasn’t provided a definitive date when the new package will be in pharmacies for dispensing.

Premera customers with deductible or coinsurance plans will see an immediate reduction in cost for the medication once the new NDC price is available. Encourage your patients taking Repatha to ask their pharmacist for the lower-priced NDC package at their next refill.

Repatha treats high cholesterol in patients who have certain genetic conditions and/or high cholesterol despite the use of other cholesterol therapies (such as statins).
