Improving customers' lives by making healthcare work better is the purpose that drives us every day. To do this, we’re committed to social responsibility and effective philanthropy to improve the community.
Our Premera Social Impact program focuses on behavioral health issues, with an emphasis on funding programs that help historically underserved communities, including people of color and low-income populations. Community health data consistently shows disparities among these groups resulting in lower quality and access of healthcare services, worse health outcomes, and increased healthcare costs.
Premera recently awarded $212,000 in grants to Abused Women’s AID, Anchorage Project Access, My House in Wasilla, and NAMI Alaska. Learn more about the grants.
Why behavioral health?
Based on data from our recent national health index and state and local community health assessments, health conditions such as depression, anxiety, mood disorder, and substance abuse are common areas of concern. These conditions are nearly universal experiences of individuals with behavioral health problems with the abuse most commonly occurring in childhood.
Many other factors play a role in a person’s overall wellness. By promoting approaches and preventions that include resilience and trauma-informed practice, we can foster healing for individuals, families, and communities across Washington state and Alaska.
